NOTE: All photoshop tutorials were made using Photoshop CS2. It may or may not work the same on other photo editing programs!
In this tutorial you will be able to learn to go from this to this.
It is really quite easy!
Step 1: First, open your image in a new document. I will be using this:
Step 2: Select the pen tool, which looks like this. Then set the settings for the tool the same as I have done in the image below.
Step 3: Then begin making lines around the person that is in your image and make it so the edges are rounded. Make sure that you make a new layer! Otherwise it WILL NOT work If you don't know how to do this, click somewhere in the left top area of the picture where you want the beam to start. Then go to the other side, a little further down and click. Then you drag it inward so that it gets rounded. Then for the next side, let go and click down again where you want it, repeating until you get to their feet. I didn't get that right away. It took me about 15 minutes to figure it out! So I hope that helped explain it a little bit. Now after you've done that it should look something like this:
Step 4: Now go to your brush tool and make sure that you have the default circle brush selected and set to 7px and 100% hardness.
Step 5: Now, still on the pen tool, you need to right click and click stroke path. Then set it to these settings and click ok. Now it should look something like this.
Step 6: Now you want to make it look like it's going around him/her. So you will take the lasso tool and erase every other piece like so.
Step 7: And that's all you have to do! There are some other things you can do to make it have a glowing effect. Go to Layer >> Layer Properties >> Outer Glow. Then pick a nice bright color you think will look good. In this case I am going to use #e7a980, a sandish color, because the picture was taken on a beach. And then it should turn out like this! Then if you want you can add other cool stuff, like brushes, text or whatever you like. Hope this helped!
